The title ‘Kinda Mexico’ is a playful nod towards Al Lamki’s experiences observing the movement patterns of various social groups as a student in the USA and his youth in Al Ain. Human migration patterns continue to preoccupy Al Lamki. Mexico became a site of hedonism and escape from the normality of everyday life when Al Lamki was a student in New York. The artist likens this spirit of escapism to that of the ‘weekenders’ that he witnessed making their way to the Jebel Hafeet Mountain during his youth, keen to bypass the hum-drum of everyday life and relax in the Mercure hotel on the mountain.
