Ziad Al Najjar

B.2001
Ziad Al Najjar is an artist from Dubai, the United Arab Emirates. Coming from a diverse background, he looks at aspects of his, his parents and grandparents’ backgrounds as an exploration into better understanding identity and culture thus creating transcultural relationships. His current work investigates historical and contemporary applications of marks and motifs in art, architecture, religious imagery, textile and design. Through nuanced colors studies, patterning, and materiality he constructs layers of ambivalence within the artworks visually and representationally.

In the summer of 2020, he co-founded artist studio nine01 in Dubai, UAE and in the fall debuted in Dubai’s independent scene as a featured artist at Maisan15. He is a full-time student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, working towards a Bachelor of Fine Art (2023). He received a scholarship from the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and a Creative Honors Scholarship from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
