b.1963 Nafjat Iraq, Halim Karim currently lives and works between Denver, USA and Dubai, UAE.
Karim studied ceramics at the Baghdad Academy of Fine Art before moving to the Netherlands in 1996 to take up a place at the Gerrit Reitveld Academy, Amsterdam.
He has presented solo exhibitions across the Middle East, Europe and the USA, including Baladna Gallery, Amman, Jordan (1992); Schauer Gallery, Paris, France (1994); 50x70 Gallery, Beirut, Lebanon (1995); Princessehof National Museum of Ceramics, Leeuwarden, Holland (2001); Gremillion Gallery, Houston, USA (2005) and AB Gallery, Lucerne, Switzerland (2012).
His work has been widely exhibited in museums and institutions worldwide, including The Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, Boulder, Colorado (2007); The Paul Klee Museum, Bern, Switzerland (2009) and The ZKM Museum of Contemporary Art, Karlsruhe, Germany (2011). In 2011 Halim was selected to represent Iraq in the 54th Venice Biennale.
Halim's work is also part of numerous public collections, including the Saatchi Gallery, UK, Victoria and Albert Museum, UK; The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, USA; The Royal Association of Fine Arts, Jordan; Arab Museum of Contemporary Art, Qatar and Institut du Monde Arabe, France.
