Alexander Charriol at ArtSpace

ArtSpace and Franck Provost are hosting an exhibition for the extraordinary paintings and works on paper of artist Alexander Charriol which opening night will be on November 22 at 19:30. The exhibition will continue through December 21.  Fresh from his internationally acclaimed show in Hong Kong where he was raised by French parents, and his recent show in New York, the Franco-American will have his first show in Dubai.
In Charriol’s new series of paintings, created in his Chelsea studio, the artist constructs a personal reflection on the active life of a 20-something international scion in 21st century New York.
Many of the paintings on exhibition observe the often chaotic interactions of young adulthood and the issues of contemporary society, many times capturing amusing moments of youth attitudes towards life.  His narrative scenarios-- riddled with characters caught in a moment in time-- are rendered in a combination of expressive abstraction and figurative styles.   The strength in Charriol’s paintings lie in the decisive use of vibrant color and bold line to embody the emotion of an oft time sobering storyline which is brilliantly represented by many of his recent work to be up at the ArtSpace gallery walls.
Alexander Charriol, a member of the Charriol family whose patriarch, Philippe Charriol, is founder and creator of the eponymous international luxury brand, was born in Hawaii and studied alternatively at the Parson School of Design, Tufts University, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and Northeastern University, before setting up his own studio in New York.  Since 1999, he has had a number of sold-out national and international exhibitions including at the
Yoshii Gallery in Paris, the Ayala Museum in Manila and at the Kee Club and Art Statements Gallery in Hong Kong.
