Contemplations on consumerism and capitalism are always close to the fore in Al Lamki’s art. The title ‘Merry-Cure’ pays homage to the Mercure hotel that hosts visitors on the Jebel Hafeet Mountain. This work is a fantastical rendition of the fish tank that greets guests as they arrive at the hotel’s welcome desk. Al Lamki has replaced the tropical fish with a writhing shark captured from multiple angles. The shark, Al Lamki, suggests is a metaphor for every day life which feels much like a shark tank.
