The Face and Beyond: Adel El Siwi

2017年03月13日 - 04月2日

In this solo show Siwi is revisiting his signature use of the face as well as incorporating the figure as the central issue, using this composition as a field or a space that contains its own visual narrative. The viewer is invited to look into the works and see the face and figure, or go even further beyond and look at the works as a starting point of where things happen.

Adel El Siwi studied medicine at Cairo University between 1970 and 1976, simultaneously indulging in independent study at the Faculty of Fine Arts there. In 1980, he relocated to Milan for ten years before moving back to Cairo where he currently lives and works. Siwi has participated in the Cairo Biennale (1996, 2008), the Sharjah Biennial (1997), and the Venice Biennale (2009) among many significant exhibitions. He has also translated into Arabic several texts by artists such as Leonardo da Vinci and Paul Klee.
