A Bridge Between Worlds

For the last two decades Tabari Artspace has played a vital role in connecting international audiences and institutions to the modern and contemporary artists of the MENA region.

Grounded in the notion that art has the capacity to dismantle borders, foster new ways of knowing and stimulate cross-cultural understanding, Tabari Artspace forms a bridge between worlds, a platform pioneering a diverse roster of exhibitions at the intersection of the local and the global.

Programming

Over twenty years Tabari Artspace has chartered the evolution of MENA art from the modern to the contemporary. The gallery has been central to the advancement of the modern masters now collected by such institutions as the British Museum, The Guggenheim, Centre Pompidou, The Barjeel Art Foundation, Institut du monde Arabe, and Seoul Museum of Art.

With the emergence of a new generation of practitioners Tabari Artspace expanded its programming to encompass contemporary artists from the MENA region and its diaspora conceptually engaged with issues pertinent to the current human condition and united through fine art quality. Advanced by an all-women team, Tabari Artspace foregrounds female figures and marginalised perspectives in contemporary art.

The cultural ecosystem in the UAE has been central to the Tabari Artspace trajectory; as such the gallery strives to contribute to the region’s cultural vision. Through representation of artists originating from and taking root in the GCC, Tabari Artspace forms a platform for discovery of the important, newly emerging artistic talent from the region.

Tabari Artspace extends art beyond the exhibition space. Through special projects and digital programming we establish possibilities for connection with new audiences. Twice-yearly exhibitions spotlight international artists that have cast their gaze towards the MENA region while art in the exhibition space is now supplemented with digital counterparts.

Community

Community engagement and wider social access to MENA art are at the core of Tabari Artspace's missions. Physical programming is accompanied by talks, publishing, workshops, and community events. The Tabari Artspace global residency programme, Home from Home, also encourages the artists of the region to develop their practice amid new communities and environments.
