Tabari Artspace 2024 : Mirrors from the Sidewalk

Literature

"During a road trip in Ankara, Rashed went to the Nallihan bird sanctuary, an artificial wetland ecosystem located in the Davutoğlan village within the Nallıhan district of Ankara province, Turkey. This painting marks the second sighting within the bird sanctuary, which are the Rainbow canyons, formed around 10 million years ago. The colors of the canyons emerge from the types of minerals that were deposited during the formation of these hills, such as the deep red tones which resulted from

iron deposits. Rashed saw the hills and immediately envisioned herself resting on them and releasing her wounds from the months prior to this trip. Her body births peace as it molds itself into the canyon’s contours and it becomes whole. This piece marks an act of utter surrender to the present moment while reaching for the clouds."

- Alymamah Rashed
