A vivid blue ground carries an overlapping density of greens, pinks and reds, forms reading simultaneously as foliage, figures and abstracted ornament. The composition has the quality of a world observed from inside, forms pulling toward one another with the irrational logic of dreamed experience. El-Kadhi Brown's handling of blue as ground rather than accent is characteristic, the colour functioning as psychological space.
