Literature

This series explores geology, memory, and transformation.

In a small desert plot in Cairo, once a prehistoric sea, layers of soil reveal worlds of extinction and adaptation. Fascinated by fossils as archives of deep time, Esraa reimagines lost landscapes through hybrid creatures as an act of adaptation that blends sea, desert, river, and urban life. Working with drawing and soft sculpture, she materialises these beings, balancing fragility and fiction. Inspired by Arabic travel literature, the artist weaves storytelling with history, questioning how land shapes our understanding of apocalypse, survival, who we are and what is the land's history.
