Small-format work, A Shadow Grows Its Wings, demonstrates El-Kadhi Brown's ability to condense atmospheric complexity into intimate scale. A turbulent field of grey, white, crimson and yellow-green marks press against one another in restless motion, forms caught mid-transformation. The ink works against the oil's fluency, introducing a harder, more resistant mark that fragments the surface into competing impulses. The title suggests becoming rather than arrival, a state of transition between states that the composition holds without resolving.
