In Sling, red, green and blue marks contest a warm ground, the composition built from overlapping directional strokes that generate a sense of centrifugal force. The near-square format contains the energy without resolving it, forms pressing against the edges as though the canvas is insufficient to hold what it has been asked to carry. El-Kadhi Brown's gestural handling is particularly pronounced here, each mark retaining its individual velocity within a composition that reads as a whole.
