Beat of Wing constructs a dense chromatic undergrowth through which something rises. A warm ochre and brown ground anchors the lower portion of the canvas while blue sky presses in from above, loosely rendered forms caught between earth and air. The marks are gestural and directional, conveying motion without fixing it. El-Kadhi Brown's handling of oil here has a spontaneous quality, pigment applied with physical immediacy, each stroke preserving the energy of its making. The result is a painting that feels mid-breath, in motion.
